The focus of this Master Studio was on courtyards. Exploring their historical significance, diverse experiential qualities; addressing the technical challenges posed by the colonnade as well as the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Essential in our design is the experience of the promenade, which lures the curious passer-by from the street entrance through the covered gallery of the public courtyard, up the central staircase, and ushers them into the intimate atmosphere of a green courtyard, providing access to the adjacent abbey garden. Throughout the promenade a range of different spaces for collective living unfolds.
